What we can do for you

Everything here is free, and one phone number reaches all of it.

  • Emergency housing placement

    Short-term shelter for anyone with nowhere safe to stay tonight, including families with children. We find a place the same day, through the shelters, motels, and boarding houses we work with across HRM.

    8 am to 9 pm, seven days a week. Same-day placement.

    Call for emergency support

  • Transitional housing

    Furnished units with a worker you meet every week, for people leaving a shelter or hospital who need a stable place while they find permanent housing.

    24 units across four properties: Gottingen, Alderney, Windmill, and Robie. Stays of 3 to 12 months.

  • Rent bank and utility assistance

    One-time funding to stop an eviction or a utility disconnection, paid directly to the landlord or utility company.

    Up to $2,500 per household per year. Decision within 48 business hours.

    One-on-one help with Nova Scotia Housing applications, private rental searches, references, and landlord negotiations.

    Drop-in Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 am to 4 pm, at 1425 Hollis Street. Dartmouth North Community Centre Wednesdays, 1 to 4 pm.

Fatima's ten days

When Fatima came to us in November 2023, she had ten days before her eviction date and nowhere safe for her two children to go. Within 48 hours, our rent bank had cleared her arrears and a navigator had helped her work things out with her landlord.
