Weekly Food Hampers

Tues & Thurs, 10am–6pm 3 Locations No ID Required

Our weekly food hamper program is the heart of what Nourish BC does. Each hamper is carefully packed by our volunteers to include a week's worth of nutritious food for your family. What goes into each hamper varies based on what's been donated that week, but we always aim for a balance of fresh and shelf-stable goods.

We serve over 2,400 families every month across three permanent locations in Burnaby, Surrey, and Richmond. There is no application, no proof of income, and no referral needed. You are welcome every single week.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. We do not require any ID, proof of address, income verification, or referral. Food hampers are available to anyone who comes through our doors during pickup hours. We believe dignity matters as much as food.
Yes, you can come every week. Hamper sizes are based on your household size — let our volunteers know how many people you're feeding. There is no limit on how often you visit. You are always welcome.
We do our best to accommodate dietary preferences. Please speak with a volunteer at the desk and let them know your needs. While we can't guarantee specific items every week, we work hard to ensure every family leaves with food they can actually use.
You don't need to bring anything. However, a reusable bag or box to carry your food home is helpful — hampers can be heavy! We have some bags available if you need one.

Program 2

Community Kitchen

Wed 11am–1pm & Sat 10am–12pm Burnaby Location All Skill Levels Welcome

Food is more than fuel — it's a way to connect, share stories, and feel at home. Our Community Kitchen runs twice a week at our Burnaby location and brings together neighbours from across Metro Vancouver to cook, eat, and build relationships.

The format is simple: each session has a theme or featured ingredient (often from that week's food rescue haul), and our kitchen coordinator guides the group through one or two shared dishes. You cook together, you eat together, and you go home with the rest. No cooking experience required — just a willingness to try.

Over the years, the Community Kitchen has become far more than a meal. It's where newcomers to Canada have learned about local ingredients, where seniors have shared recipes from their home countries, and where a lot of real friendships have started at the cutting board.

Frequently Asked Questions

None at all. Our kitchen coordinator guides every session and there are always tasks suited to all ability levels — from chopping vegetables to stirring a pot. We've had people who had never cooked a meal from scratch leave feeling genuinely confident in the kitchen.
Nothing is required. All ingredients and equipment are provided. If you'd like to bring a dish to share or a special ingredient, you're welcome to — but it's absolutely not expected.
Yes! Children are welcome in the Community Kitchen with a parent or guardian. We love when families cook together. Children old enough to participate safely in kitchen activities are encouraged to help — it's a great learning experience.
Our kitchen coordinator and regular volunteers speak English, Punjabi, and Cantonese. Sessions tend to be multilingual by nature — cooking transcends language barriers quite naturally. Call ahead at 604-555-0128 if you have specific language needs and we'll do our best to help.

Mobile Pantry

Every Thursday 8 Neighbourhood Stops Free & Open to All

Not everyone can make it to a fixed location. Our refrigerated Mobile Pantry truck brings fresh produce, dairy, proteins, and pantry staples directly into the neighbourhoods that need them most — every single Thursday, rain or shine.

The route covers eight stops from Surrey to Burnaby and out to Abbotsford, reaching communities that are underserved by traditional food banks. Each stop runs 45–60 minutes. Just show up during the listed window — no ticket, no registration, no barriers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our volunteers will help you select items based on your household size and what's available that day. The goal is to make sure everyone at a stop gets to take something home — so quantities per person may vary based on the crowd at each stop.
We post cancellations on our social media as early as possible and call community contacts in the area. If weather or logistics force a stop cancellation, we do our best to make it up the following week with extra supply. You can also call 604-555-0128 Thursday mornings for a status update.
No. Anyone can use any stop on our route. We designed the route to be accessible by transit, but you're welcome to travel to whatever stop is most convenient for you.
