Chaplin Lake Complex Restoration

Phase 2 of a 3-phase effort to restore 3,200 acres of internationally significant saline lake habitat. This phase focuses on rehydrating five drained potholes adjacent to the main lake body, native shoreline seeding, and establishing monitoring transects for shorebird breeding populations.

Qu'Appelle Grassland Corridor

Working with 14 landowner partners in the Qu'Appelle Valley to establish a continuous native grassland corridor connecting two existing conservation easements. This will be the first unbroken grassland corridor in the valley — providing unobstructed movement for burrowing owls, swift fox, and ground-nesting songbirds.

Big Muddy Valley · Southern Saskatchewan

Big Muddy Badlands Survey

A 3-year annual population survey of swift fox and burrowing owl in the Big Muddy Valley, one of the last significant swift fox strongholds in Canada. Year 2 of 3 is complete. All data will be submitted to COSEWIC and SARA recovery teams upon conclusion.

Assiniboia Region · South-Central Saskatchewan

Assiniboia Native Seed Bank

A multi-year seed collection and cataloguing effort focused on remnant native prairies in the Assiniboia region. Locally sourced ecotype seed is essential for successful restoration — commercial seed mixes introduce genetics inappropriate for regional conditions. 127 species catalogued to date.

Last Mountain Lake Region · Central Saskatchewan

Last Mountain Lake Buffer Zone Restoration

Restoration of 1,800 acres of degraded cropland surrounding Canada's oldest bird sanctuary. The buffer zone now provides nesting and staging habitat for over 90 species, including multiple species at risk. Annual monitoring continues under a separate long-term protocol.

Moose Jaw River Watershed · Southern Saskatchewan

Moose Jaw River Prairie Remnant Protection

Secured a permanent conservation easement on 640 acres of intact native fescue prairie along the Moose Jaw River. The site contains one of the last verified populations of western prairie fringed orchid in southern Saskatchewan. The easement protects it in perpetuity.

Willowbunch Region · South-Central Saskatchewan

Willowbunch Prairie Baseline Survey

A 3-year comprehensive baseline monitoring program for plant communities and vertebrate species in the Willowbunch region. The survey established GPS-referenced transects, developed species-specific protocols, and documented 214 plant species and 67 vertebrate species across the survey area.
