Restore
the Prairie.
Protect
What Remains.

Saskatchewan's native grasslands and wetlands are disappearing. Prairie Futures works with landowners, scientists, and Indigenous communities to restore what was lost — and protect what still stands.

What We Do

Three pillars
of conservation

Native grasslands store more carbon than forests, filter water, and sustain more than 300 at-risk species. We're working to keep them here.

Grassland Restoration

Reseeding native grass and wildflower species on degraded land, working alongside willing landowners across the province.

Wetland Recovery

Restoring prairie potholes and sloughs — critical waterfowl habitat and groundwater recharge zones that agriculture has drained for decades.

Species Monitoring

Annual surveys tracking at-risk species — from burrowing owls to native orchids and pollinators — and publishing our findings openly.

14 years of field work

What fourteen
years looks like

Since 2011, Prairie Futures has operated with one conviction: healthy grasslands and wetlands are not a luxury. They're the foundation everything else depends on.

  1. 12,000+ acres of grassland and wetland restored or protected
  2. 47 at-risk species tracked in annual field surveys
  3. 38 landowner stewardship partnerships active
  4. 6 peer-reviewed publications since 2019
