Grief support

Free, and open to anyone in Winnipeg. You do not need to have had a person at the house, and you do not have to talk.

A dirt path runs beside a river, with cottonwoods in autumn colour under a wide sky.

Just come

No sign-up, no referral, no need to phone ahead. Turn up.

  • Walking with Grief

An hour’s walk along the river path with others who are grieving. Talk, or don’t. The walk goes ahead in every season, including January.

Tuesdays, 10 am, year round. Meets at the front door, 915 Kingston Row. Anyone is welcome.

  • The Remembering Evening

Once a year the garden fills with candles, one for each name read aloud. Bring anyone who loved the person.

The first Thursday of December, 7 pm. The garden, then the front room. Everyone is welcome, and dress for the weather.

Call first

These programs are kept small on purpose, so please call or email before the first session.

  • After

An eight-week evening group of eight to ten people, led by a counsellor and a trained volunteer. The same people every week, so trust has room to build.

Tuesdays, 7 to 8:30 pm, in the front room. The next series starts Tuesday, October 6, 2026. For adults grieving a death in the past two years.

Call 204-555-0142 or email grief@buroakhospice.ca to register.

  • One-to-one counselling

Up to six sessions with a grief counsellor, in person at the house, by phone, or by video.

By appointment, daytime and early evening. For anyone, at any point after a death. The first session is usually within two weeks.

    Call 204-555-0142 or email grief@buroakhospice.ca.

  • Small Hands

A four-week Saturday program for children aged six to twelve and a parent or caregiver, with art, stories, and time to ask hard questions.

Saturdays, 10 to 11:30 am, at the house. The next series runs in November 2026. Capped at eight families.

Call 204-555-0142 or email grief@buroakhospice.ca to register.

Two people walk away along a paved path, one in a dark hoodie and one in a grey jacket.
The Tuesday walk sets off from the front door, whatever the weather.

“I came to the group because my sister made me. I kept coming because nobody there needed me to be fine.”
